modernvintage.com 2.0!

We are absolutely giddy with excitement today. Why? Because we’ve just rolled out our new website design! We just love our blog and wanted to merge the two to create something seamless that really encompasses our style. Julie Farber with Deluxe Designs, the talent behind the blog and the site, has done just that and we are thrilled. She is so easy to work with and when it comes to the look, what I can say? She just gets us.

So hop on over to the new site to peruse and let us know what you think!

Brittni + Andrew on Style Me Pretty

Ya’ll, today I feel like God and the heavens are shining down on us.  We are experiencing one of our wedding planning dreams, one of our favorite couples is on Style Me Pretty!  Eeeekkkkk!  We are so excited that Brittni and Andrew’s wedding is featured on SMP’s Little Black Book Blog today!

Sit back with a margarita and check out their Cinco De Mayo wedding here.  I think we may  just have to celebrate with one too!

Emily & Josh Featured on Borrowed & Bleu

Have we told you guys how much we loved working with Emily and Josh? Sometimes you have such a good time working with a couple you kind of have withdrawals from them after the wedding day is over. These guys were such fun and creative people and it showed in every aspect of their wedding, from the DIY lawn games and flowers, to the gorgeous spread of food prepared by the family (read more about it here). That’s why we are so excited that their day was featured yesterday on Borrowed & Bleu‘s lovely blog. Go check out the post immediately for some more glorious eye candy brought to you by Chris and Adrienne Scott, Photographers.

Published: Murfreesboro Magazine

Sometimes we talk about being giddy like fifth grade girls at a slumber party.  Today is one of those days.  In November we partnered with Murfreesboro Magazine and some amazing Murfreesboro vendors to put together a styled shoot at The Wren’s Nest.  That shoot, along with some pieces on local weddings I wrote, is featured in the February bridal issue of Murfreesboro Magazne!  You can read the article here and you can pick up a copy in Murfreesboro.  We are so excited and so honored to be a part of this shoot and feature!

We also had an ad designed by Megan Hassell that we looovee!

2013 Trend Watch: Glamping

I have a confession to make: I secretly desperately want a vintage trailer.  I am really not sure what I would do with it, but I am getting some serious trailer envy.  This is the inspiration behind the trend we are spotlighting today, Glamping.  What exactly is glamping, you ask?  Well, camping with glam.  You know, portable toilets, maybe even a bed to sleep in. (Don’t get me wrong, I do LOVE the roughing it camping but the idea of a little glitter at my campsite seems amazing.)

I know at first sound it seems like an oxymoron, outdoors and fine china, glitter and cotton, but I think modern brides (and grooms) are bringing together eclectic elements for a natural-glam and elegant, yet fun wedding.

Bringing in the idea of “glamping” opens up all kinds of opportunities.  Anything from a love nest, to hay bales, smores bar and my dream–a vintage trailer!  I think some gold china on a farm table with cotton, lace, burlap and jute would be awesome!  Here is my  inspiration:

2012 Year In Review

2012 was a year for firsts with Modern Vintage.  As our first full year in business it taught us a lot about who we are as a business and what we can do.  It was exciting and challenging and more amazing than we could ever have asked for.

We kicked off 2012 right and rang in the new year with our first official Modern Vintage wedding on New Year’s Eve.

Then, we were incredibly lucky to work with some truly amazing brides all throughout the year. All the weddings that we worked on this year were as different from one another as the couples getting married. We had so much fun getting to know our couples, being creative with them as we thought through their event and getting to celebrate (and occasionally shake our booties on the dance floor) with them on their wedding day.

We weren’t all weddings all the time last year, we also had the privilege of planning a few baby showers and a birthday party!  There is nothing like seeing a friend become a mom so we were very thankful to have three showers to plan.  It is also fun to see a baby cross that one year mark and smash some cake in their face. (Even though the cake part didn’t happen at the party.)

The first shower for our sweet friend Laine, was a bay-bee sip and see:

Next came a Seuss-a-rific shower for Molly, Jessie’s sister-in-law:

Our last baby shower was a “What are Little Boys Made of” theme for my sister-in-law Bonnie:

We also planned a Vintage Woodland first birthday party for my baby girl Isla:

We spent some time this year getting to design a booth and attend a few bridal shows. We have so much getting to put our heads together and come up with fun new designs, even if we do have to occasionally reign ourselves in a bit. In February, we participated in the Murfreesboro Pink Bridal Show, and got to speak with many awesome brides:

In October, we were a part of the Murfreesboro Doubletree’s Unveiled event, a unique spin on your traditional bridal show. The venue actually set up the ballroom like an actual event, where each vendor showcased what their contributions to an actual reception would be like. We had a blast designing the centerpieces, and sign in table as well as crafting and painting over 80 mini pumpkin favors!

We have a slight obsession with wedding blogs, yes, we are junkies.  Glamour and Grace is one of our favorites so we are so excited when our rustic vintage styled shoot was featured there:

Do you ever get a phone call or e-mail that literally makes you giddy like a seven year old girl?  We had a screeching phone conversation when we got the e-mail inviting us to be members of Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book. I mean seriously, we were ecstatic.

We sometimes like to give advice because we have been there and know how easy it is to become a Pinterest overload bride!  We wrote a piece for DexKnows Weddings that was featured in September:

If you have followed us for awhile you will know that we are some craft-loving chicks. We have craft days and just plain ole love to do it.  We took this from just being a hobby and put it to practice by selling some of our hand-made items in Simply Southern Marketplace in Murfreesboro.  This store is so much fun and I could drop a small fortune there!

We could not be more grateful for the couples, vendors, parents and people we were able to work with and meet in 2012. We are so excited about what 2013 holds for us as a business.  I am sure it holds more laughter and love!

What Type of Bride Are You?

Photo by Chris and Adrienne Scott, Photographers

It is a question you may not ask yourself, but I think we all fall into a “type” of bride.  Back when I was planning (seven years ago) wedding blogs and Pinterest were not options.  This was both a blessing and a curse.  I was a laid back bride (I think) until about two weeks before the wedding and then I became a stressed-out bride.  The good  news is that I ended a very happy bride and my wedding day was truly one of the best days of my life.

About a month ago I wrote a little diddy for Bridal Banter at Dexknows Weddings about what level of service is good for different types of brides.  I hit everything from the Pinterest Overload bride to the Not-so-good-at-budgeting Bride.  Head over to their site to check it out and see which category you fall into!

Simply Southern Marketplace

At Modern Vintage we love to craft. I know that comes as a shocker to you guys.  When I saw that an adorable new shop was opening on the square in Murfreesboro a light bulb went off.  Jessie and I have been talking about starting an Etsy shop for awhile and I felt like this was a great alternative to sell some of our handmade stuff!  The shop is called Simply Southern Marketplace and it opened on Saturday, September 29th.  Let me tell you, I could have gone crazy shopping in there.  There are so many amazing handmade items!  Anything from farm tables to wreaths to jewelry.

We set up a booth with some of the things we have done for our DIYF’s in the past couple of weeks.  You can purchase our lovely coasters and ribbon banner along with accordion flowers and photo frames.  We will have more items there hopefully later this month!

If you are in or around Murfreesboro visit the shop, you won’t be sorry.

Our first post!

Hi there!

We hope to use this blog to share inspiration, current trends, vendor highlights and event recaps. For our first post, we’d like to tell you a little bit more about ourselves. We’ve known each other since the 7th grade and tend to finish each other’s sentences. We hope to be able to understand our clients’ visions of their events as well as we understand one another. We are both crazy about crafting and love the details that go into an event.  After doing weddings on our own for the past few years, we decided it would be much more fun to jump in and start Modern Vintage Events.

We began our company last summer and officially debuted our event planning, coordination and design services at the Murfreesboro Pink Bridal Show.

Our booth at the Pink Bridal Show!

We love that our job gives us a chance to combine our experience and our imaginations to help our clients design and create events that are truly unique to their personal style and vision. We are so excited to finally get our blog up and share some of our work with you!

We want you to get to know us through our blog, our parties, our crafts and our voice.  (Don’t worry, we won’t sing.)  What better way to do that than to give you some background.  Yes, we have known each other since the dawn of the 90′s.  This is how cool we were in High School:

If you need advice on where to go on your honeymoon we would love to give it. Considering we are world travelers, it makes us experts.  We have some great stories about backpacking in Europe, which we may not recommend doing on your honeymoon with the hostels being less than private.  All kidding aside, we do love to travel and can’t wait to hear where you are going on your honeymoon and then hear all about it when you get back.

We are really excited about Modern Vintage, our new blog and all the party related goodness 2012 brings.  So come on in, sit a spell, get inspired, learn something new and come back to visit often.
